Let not your hearts be troubled

I cannot imagine a more troubling time for the twelve apostles collectively then the final moment leading to the conclusion of the last supper. The Savior would say…
“A little while, and ye shall not see me”
“They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.”
As can be imagined for a newly ordained and young group of twelve apostles, this was nothing but troublesome. There Rock, Foundation, Master and Friend, was to be taken; and to add to there utter confusion He prophesied of not only there hardships to come, but their witness of the Savior leading to death.
However, the Master Teacher is not one to give hard lessons to the ears without supplying overwhelming comfort to the wounded soul.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
We are approaching days ahead that will cause confusion, sorrow, and broken hearts. Enough so that men’s hearts will fail them and testimonies of the Lamb of God will be tested. The Savior was and is fully aware of this and has still promised the one thing to serve as a protection from the storm to come; peace.
The invitation has always been the same throughout all of holy scripture.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
“thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me.”
Regardless of the trials in the days to come, do not stay fixed on the roads that lead to depths of misery, but have faith in the Atonement of Christ which leads to peace and rest. Have faith in his promises and his covenants with his people. True peace and comfort is in Him. We can continue to find his promised rest in these words as we read the scriptures. I once had a wise mission president teach us that "The words of Christ heal the wounded soul." I believe this statement with all my heart, and I am confident in his promises being fulfilled in the days to come.
